Pads are meant to be used in two ways – either as a booster pad or stand alone inside underwear or inside a diaper cover. These pads are made to prevent leakage from urine. These incontinence pads are either disposable or reusable. Pads are an easy way for people with light incontinence to have protection with dignity.
The pads with barriers come in many shapes and sizes and are designed for light, moderate, and heavy incontinence. The barrier prevents the urine from leaking through onto the outer clothing. People with light to moderate incontinence find themselves unable to control the urine when they cough, exercise or laugh. They might also find themselves releasing a little urine when their bladders are full. This type of incontinence happens when the bladder functions are weak. The pad is not as bulky as a diaper or brief thus more comfortable. Many of the styles have a stay put adhesive strip to help keep them securely in place.
The reusable pads with a barrier are made for light incontinence. They are made to wear inside a person’s regular underwear or for extra protection they can be worn inside a diaper cover. They can be washed up to 200 times, making them quite economical over the disposable pads.
Booster pads for youth on the other hand have a very unique use. The booster pad does not have a barrier that restricts the flow of urine. The unique designs of these pads offer added absorbency and security from leakage. The booster pad is made to be worn with another incontinence product. There are a couple of different styles and levels of absorbency.
Pads are also made in a variety of shapes. The contoured pads are designed for maximum comfort. Most of the pads have been made unisex for male or female use, but the pads made especially for men give protection where it is needed most.
Pads and booster pads need to be used appropriately to maintain protection. The lighter styled pads are for lighter urine leakage while the heavier larger pads are for heavier urine leakage. Choosing the right pad with the least amount of bulk is essential to comfort and protection.
Poise pads for example have a core that locks wetness and odor along with sides that help block leakage. They even have a dry touch layer to keep the wearer feeling like they are dry and fresh. Proper protection and absorbency is utmost important for security and confidence.
Preteens and teens needing diapers might find they can manage their incontinence with the proper pad. It all depends on the amount of urine discharged at one time. Total urine incontinence will not be controlled with a pad, but a teen leaking urine occasionally will manage their incontinence quite well with the proper pad. Finding the pad that is comfortable is just as important. A person should try different shapes, lengths, and styles until they find the pad that works best for them. Don’t give up, there are many styles to choose from until a person finds what they like.
